The Science Behind It
SS-31 sticks to cardiolipin and keeps it steady. Cardiolipin is a fat found only on the inner wall of mitochondria (the cells' power plants). The power plants need it to make energy. By keeping it steady, this peptide helps cells make energy (ATP) well again. It lowers harmful oxygen molecules called ROS (reactive oxygen species). It also stops the release of cytochrome-c, a signal that tells cells to die (apoptosis). This makes worn-out power plants work more like young, healthy ones.
