NNMT uses up nicotinamide (a raw material the body uses to make NAD+) and a molecule called SAM. This drains NAD+ from cells. High NNMT activity is linked to obesity, insulin resistance (when the body stops responding well to insulin) and muscle loss. By blocking NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ gives cells more NAD+ to use.
