Bacteriostatic water is sterile (germ-free) water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added. The benzyl alcohol stops bacteria from growing in vials that are used more than once. It is the standard liquid for mixing freeze-dried (powdered) peptides. They are then injected under the skin or into a muscle. Without it, mixed peptides would only be safe to use for hours, not weeks.

In plain English

What is bacteriostatic water used for?

Bacteriostatic Water is germ-free water used to turn powdered peptides into a liquid. A little added alcohol stops bacteria from growing, so a mixed vial lasts for weeks.

What it is used for

  • Mixing peptides. Powdered peptides need a liquid before they can be injected.
  • Many uses from one vial. A mixed vial can be used many times over weeks when kept in the fridge.
  • Keeping the vial clean. It helps keep bacteria from growing each time a needle goes into the vial.
  • Standard medical supply. It is used all over the world with medicines given by injection.

How it works, in everyday words

Bacteriostatic Water is sterile water with a little benzyl alcohol mixed in. Sterile means it has no germs. The alcohol does not kill bacteria, but it stops them from growing. Without it, a mixed peptide would only be good for hours, not weeks.

Good to know

  • Add it slowly down the side of the vial. Do not spray it onto the powder.
  • Gently swirl until the powder dissolves. Do not shake it.
  • Store at room temperature before opening. Once mixed, keep it in the fridge and use within 28 to 30 days.

Common Dose

How It Is Given

Drawn into a syringe, then slowly added to the peptide vial

How Often

Used as needed to mix peptides

The Science Behind It

The benzyl alcohol does not kill bacteria. It stops them from growing. So the same vial of mixed peptide can be safely used many times over 28+ days when kept in the fridge. The water itself is a sterile, pH-balanced (not too acidic) liquid that carries the peptide.

What Research Suggests

  • Needed to mix powdered peptides for injection
  • Lets you use one peptide vial many times (28+ days)
  • Sterile and pH-balanced
  • Keeps bacteria from growing each time you draw from the vial
  • Standard medical-grade mixing liquid
